Last saturday, I went to the International Collectors Fair to do the Vintage Fair Challenge I told you about. I had to style two black dresses with items from the fair, on a €150 budget. I had been to the fair three times before, so I already knew what to expect. Nonetheless, I was a bit nervous about the challenge. What if it didn’t work out? In this post, I tell you how the challenge went, whether I made it with the budget and I’m showing you the end result! And of course, I would love to hear which of the outfits is your favorite!
Vintage Fair Challenge
When I walked into the fair, I immediately bumped into a gorgeous teal hat. It was love at first sight! And yet I was in doubt about buying it, as I would have to find matching items with it. But then I figured this would hold for every first item. So, I bought the hat for €20! I took two steps and I already bumped into another stand with lovely vintage items. At this stand, I found a colourful plaid dress. I liked it so much, that I decided to replace one of the black dresses for this one. At the same stand, I even found a pair of matching shoes! I paid €15 for the dress and €20 for the shoes. And that’s how I ended up buying the first three items in no more than 30 minutes.
A little while later, my boyfriend (my right hand of the day) stopped at a record stand. So, I went looking at the jewelry stand next to that. And wow, they had such beautiful items there! I especially loved all their pearl necklaces! I kept thinking I had found the perfect necklace to go with one of the looks, until I found one which was even more perfect! Both necklaces were €5, so I paid €10 in total. In the mean time, my boyfriend managed to add 3 Rolling Stones records to our collection ;-)
We went looking for the hat stand. I became sort of a regular there, haha! Every time I went to the fair, I bought at least one hat there! So, I figured this would be the perfect stand to look for a hat to match the plaid dress. And I found it! The hat was €25.
Meanwhile, the outfit with the plaid dress was already complete. The other outfit still only consisted of the blue hat and black dress. I wasn’t able to find items which matched the colour of the hat and which were in the budget at the same time. So, the rest of the outfit was going to be black and white. That’s why I chose to add a bag and gloves to this outfit. I think the other outfit was already interesting enough with the plaid print and the colours. So, I used the rest of the budget for shoes, a bag and gloves to go with the blue hat. This last part of the quest turned out to be the hardest. Particularly, it took a lot of time to find nice white gloves. I did really want to add a pair of white gloves, because it would really give the outfit that something special. Luckily, I finally found a lovely pair for only €3! Next to that, I found a bag with houndstooth detail for €22 and shoes for €25.
Now it was time to dress the mannequins! I had never put together a mannequin, nor dressed one, so this was quite a challenge, but I loved doing it!
I must say, I’m very happy with the result! Finding two outfits for €150 was perfectly doable! I even managed to buy a dress and I had €10 left! The only item I didn’t buy at the fair, is the black dress from outfit 1. Outfit 1 cost me €75 in total and outfit 2 cost €65, and that’s even including the dress! So, you can definitely find nice vintage pieces for a low price at this fair!
Like to visit this fair some time? The next edition will be held on November 21 and 22!
And now, I would love to hear which outfit is your favorite! Outfit 1 (with the blue hat) or outfit 2 (with the red hat)? I’m very curious!
This is a sponsored post. But this doesn’t change my opinion!
